Barbara H. Engelbart, 73, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, passed away on December 15, 2017.
Barbara graduated from Juniata College and began teaching home ec at Ramapo High School. Committed to improving the lives of others, Barbara later earned her Masters of Social Work from NYU. She spent time working for Barnert Hospital, St. Clare’s Hospital, and most recently Tri-Hospice. Her service to others continued in her personal life and she was very active in the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains. Barbara served as an elder and deacon, was a member of the choir, volunteered for the Food Pantry and was part of the outreach program designed to assist persons confined to their home. Barbara was also instrumental in running the Flood Relief Office in Pompton Plains after the 1984 flood, which was sponsored by local churches.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Edward; her daughter, Bonnie Engelbart and her husband Marc Lefebvre, of Arlington, MA; her son, Eric Engelbart and his wife Kristina, of Oakland, CA; her sister, Margaret Heyderhoff; and her grandchildren, Noah, Caleb and Elias Lefebvre.
Family and friends may visit from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Friday, December 22 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A memorial service will be held at The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains at 1 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018. A repast will follow in Friendship Hall.
