Abdul Karim, Jr., 78, of Newfoundland, PA, formerly of Montclair, died Thursday, February 1, 2018.
Born in Jersey City, he was raised there, and graduated from Ferris High School. He enlisted in the Army, and was stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.
While on a boat cruise up the Hudson, he met Margaret Dodson. The two were married on October 1, 1961, and lived first in Jersey City before settling in Montclair, where they raised four children.
Abdul had a long career in security at Lucent Technologies. After retiring, he and Margaret moved to Newfoundland, Pennsylvania, where they enjoyed their days with family and friends, visiting casinos and camping. He also enjoyed watching Western movies, cheering on the NY Mets, or enjoying the shenanigans of WWE wrestling.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sons, Abdul Karim III, Kaissime Karim and his wife Andrea, Ahmed Karim Sr and his wife Delanie, and Omar Karim; his daughter, Zulaka Figueroa; his sister, Noorzahan Aditya; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Monday from 6-8 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home 12 pm Tuesday. Friends are invited to visit with the family starting at 11 am prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Cemetery, Clifton. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity for veterans or for the blind would be greatly appreciated by the Karim family.
