Theodore Brenes, of Hewitt, formerly of North Bergen, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018. He was 58 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Ted was the son of Tadeo and Alba Brenes. Raised in North Bergen, Ted attended school until he enlisted in the Army where he served in Washington state, Germany and Africa.
Settling in North Bergen, he and his wife Janet Brenes welcomed a son, Theodore Jr. He later settled in the Hewitt section of West Milford, where they raised their son Teddy.
A selfless, strong, and caring person, Ted was always looking after his friends and family. He was also most recently a proud and active member of The Journey Church in West Milford. Ted was known for his salsa dancing, and was an excellent cook, especially skilled in his Puerto Rican dish, pernil. He also had a great attachment to his dog, Sasha, and his cat, Casper.
Ted is lovingly survived by his son, Teddy and his wife, Kaitlyn who is currently expecting his second granddaughter; his mother, Alba Llanio; his sister, Elizabeth Mediavilla; his girlfriend, Diosa Garces; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Selena, as well as his father, Tadeo, and his sisters, Anna Maria Brenes and Rosemarie Brenes.
Visiting hours will be held 4-7:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home, with a funeral service held at 7:30 pm. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Star Legacy Foundation, The Wounded Warrior Project, and The Rare Cancer Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated by Ted's family.
