Mary Jean O’Keefe Anello, of Pompton Plains, passed away on November 10, 2021 at the age of 79. Born in Midland Park, NJ, Mary was the daughter of Eugene E. O’Keefe and Bertha C. Beckmann O’Keefe, and was raised in Elmwood Park. She graduated from Pope Pius XII High School in Passaic. She met and married Joseph Anello in 1963. Mary was the Founding Officer of Anello Bros. Inc., the family fence business. In the early years of the company, she split her time between helping to build the business, and raising her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was in sharing the simplest of pleasures that life has to offer with her family; such as the touch of a rose petal, or the beauty of the sun’s reflection. Mary enjoyed playing the piano, loved reading to her children, and was always ready to play a game. Her love of reading inspired her to pursue a college degree. In 1997, she graduated from Ramapo College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature surrounded by her proud family.
Mary is lovingly survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph; her children, Josephine Anello Grayson, Salvatore Anello, Francesca Anello Mastrandrea, Mary Christina Anello, and Gina Anello Passaro; her grandchildren, Alessio, Bradley, Michael, Eric, Emily, and Daniel; sons and daughter in-law, Peter Grayson, Indira Anello, and Douglas Passaro; her brother, Michael O’Keefe and his wife Kathleen; and her nephew, Ryan. Mary is predeceased by her son-in-law, Armando Mastrandrea.
