James W. Carey, 62, a longtime resident of Pequannock, died Sunday, January 9, 2022 at home in the care of his family.
Born in Paterson, "Jimmy" was the son of Joseph and Carolyn Carey. Moving to Pequannock in 1974, he was a graduate of Pequannock Township High School, and also earned his Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He went on to earn his license as a B.T. Journeyman, and spent his career working under Local 25 in Carlstadt. He was a true expert in his trade, and was renowned for his skill in the trade.
When Jimmy wasn't working, he loved to spend his time on his guitars. He was a gifted player, and also built his own instruments and wrote his own music. He was inspired by the greats of the rock n' roll genre, including Kiss, ACDC, Van Halen, Led Zepplin, Jimmy Hendrix and the Allman Brothers Band.
Jimmy was also a gifted artist. He had a natural talent for drawing, and regularly created portraits of his friends and family. He had a passionate and driven personality. If he set his mind to a task, he would make sure to complete it. He recently taught himself how to make watch repairs, enjoying the complexity of the job at hand and executing it himself.
Jimmy is lovingly survived by his mother, Carolyn Carey; his brother, John; his sister, Nancy; his niece and nephew, Christopher and Kimberly Carey; and his aunt, Georgia Spizziri and her husband Frank, as well as their daughters, Karen Youngs and Kathy James.
