Raymond A Clifford

Raymond Arthur Timothy Clifford, age 84, from Pompton Plains, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.  Ray was born in Brooklyn, the son of the late Timothy and Katherine (Mulhare) Clifford.  He grew up in Williamsburg, New York.

Ray attended Notre Dame and City College of New York and while he could be described as a “jack of all trades” he began his career in the medical field and switched over to education.  He served in the Navy Reserves.  He married the love of his life Margherita “Margie” Clifford on June 9, 1972.  Ray worked as an attendance teacher for the New York City Board of Education, primarily out of Seward Park High School, for over thirty-seven years.

He was a funny story teller who would give all those he loved the shirt off his back.  Ray was an avid reader, a history buff, and he enjoyed a good cigar and his newspapers.  He loved spending time in St. Pete Beach, Florida, where he lived out some of his retirement for over fifteen years.

A loving, loyal, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ray is survived by his loving daughter, Maria and her husband Brad Van Lenten, his cherished grandchildren, Braydon and Addie, his brother Robert Clifford, sister Maureen and brother-in-law Terence Keegan, and his nieces and nephews.  “Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, I’ve only gone to rest a little while.”
