James Anthony Brennan, age 83, a resident of Bloomingdale, NJ for nearly 60 years, passed away on April 14, 2022, at home following a brief illness.
Jim was born in Paterson NJ to James Francis and Carolyn (Smeriglio) Brennan. He grew up in Paterson along with his brother and many relatives. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Paterson.
Jim served in the US Air Force in the United States and Morocco. He was honorably discharged.
In June of 1957 he met the love of his life, Sonja Louise Hartmann, while he was serving in the US Air Force at Scott Air Force Base, IL. They dated for five years to the day before their marriage on June 23, 1962. The couple moved to the Brennan house in Paterson NJ and lived there before moving to his current home in Bloomingdale.
Following his time in the military, Jim worked at Kearfott Corporation, ACF Industries, and Seaboard Finance Company. He spent most of his career as a Customer Engineer at IBM maintaining computers for several major corporations. He completed his career working as an Operations Manager for Haband Company.
Jim was a devout lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Butler NJ. He joined the 3rd Order Secular Franciscans and was professed with his wife in 2000. Jim served as an officer of the chapter.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and motorcycling with his family and friends.
Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and his wife, Sonja. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Brennan (Mark) Smith, his son James Edward (Yuri) Brennan, his brother Edward Joseph (Sharon) Brennan, his sister-in-law Susan Noelle Prouhet, and numerous nieces, nephews, and members of the Brennan, Smeriglio, Hartmann, Prouhet, Klos and Rother families.
A viewing will be held at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, 781 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains, NJ, 07444 on Thursday, April 21, 2022, between 4 and 7 pm. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 65 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, NJ, 07405 on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 10:00 AM with burial at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. A repast will be held at Lina’s Ristorante & Catering, 49 Main Street, Bloomindale, NJ 07403 at 12 noon.
