Kathleen (Riley) Sheridan, 72, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2022 in Tucson, A.Z.
Born in Pompton Plains, Kate was predeceased by her father, J. Stephen Riley, mother, Margaret Riley Ricker, and stepfather, Elwood (Tex) Ricker, and sisters, Janice Weston (Charlie) and Judy Eilert (Tom).
Kate was the beloved mother of daughters, Elizabeth Sheridan (Tim Naumann) and Mary Kate Sheridan (Don Opici), and loving grandmother of Thomas Naumann, and Luca and Logan Opici. She is also survived by her sister Linda Martin (Frank), brother Tim Riley (Irene), many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, her companion, Richard Sosnicki, and friends, Tom Sheridan, Kay DeAngelo, Alex Lane, and Margaret Ormsby.
Kate graduated from DePaul High School in Wayne, attended University of Arizona, and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She formerly worked at State Farm, A&P, and Monsen Engineering. A former parishioner of Holy Spirit Church in Pequannock, Kate served as class mother, gym teacher, substitute teacher, confirmation teacher, Girl Scout leader, and cheerleading coach at the elementary school. She retired to Tucson in 2001. She enjoyed playing crossword puzzles and Scrabble with a cat by her side. She was a fan of Turner Classic Movies, mysteries, and rom-coms. Imbued with a silly sense of humor, she loved a good laugh. Kate will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and love.
Visitation will be held at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, 781 Newark Pompton Tpke., Pompton Plains, on Saturday, Sep. 24 from 12-2 p.m., concluding with a memorial service.
