Vivian M Ruszel

Vivian M. Ruszel, 79, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Totowa, passed away on November 1, 2018.

Born in Passaic, Vivian was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Kilianski.  She married Florian Ruszel in 1959 and the couple settled in Totowa to raise their family.

Vivian was involved in many charitable organizations and volunteered much of her time to Save the Animals Rescue Team (START), the Totowa PAL, and the Literacy Volunteers of America.  A self proclaimed "cat lady," Vivian adopted and fostered countless cats and raised money for many local shelters.  After moving to Cedar Crest Village 10 years ago, she became active in the choir and spent time reading to visually impaired residents.

Vivian is survived by her children, John Ruszel and his wife Nicolina, Amy Marie Stewart and her husband Bruce, and Kristin Bernardi and her husband Anthony; her son-in-law, Harold Stamateris; her sister-in-law, Ester Kilianski; and her grandchildren, Alexandra Stamateris Maynard and her husband Cobey, James Stamateris, Nicholas Stewart, Bridget Stewart Beardsley and her husband Luke, Clayton Bernardi and Lindsey Bernardi.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Margaret Stamateris; her husband, Florian; and her brothers, Ernest and Emil Kilianski.

Visiting hours will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 pm Sunday, November 4 at Cedar Crest Village Chapel (1 Cedar Crest Drive, Pompton Plains, NJ).  A funeral service will conclude the visitation at 5:30 pm.  Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vivian's memory to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated by her family.
