Richard A. Vieira, 76, of Pompton Lakes, died Sunday, October 20, 2019.
Born in Trinidad, Richard was the son of Errol and Jessie Vieira. Raised there, he married Elizabeth Clark, and together they started their family in Trinidad.
In 1974, the young family moved to Paterson, NJ, and Richard quickly earned employment at the Nabisco plant in Fair Lawn. He would spend his entire career with the company, retiring as the Production Supervisor on the Oreo line. At retirement, his co-workers officially called him “The Godfather of Oreo” as an endearing sentiment to his long and dedicated career overseeing the brand's beloved cookie.
Richard and Elizabeth had moved to Pompton Lakes shortly after their arrival to the states, and their three daughters were all raised there. Richard loved when the town gained its own Starbucks, and routine dates there with Elizabeth were always a great treat. A true family man, Richard lived a simple life, devoted to his wife and daughters, and wanting nothing more than to just be present with them.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his daughters, Sonya Vieira, Rachel Vieira, and Renee Vieira; his brothers, Brian Vieira and Roger Vieira; and his sisters, Glenda Vander Borght and Carol Glass.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Friday at St. Mary’s Church, Pompton Lakes. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Tisch MS Research Center of New York, 521 W. 57th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10019.
