Robert Hess

Obituary of Robert William Hess

On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, Robert made his entrance into heaven at the age of 73 surrounded by family and friends.

Born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, NJ, on 2/7/48, he was Rob to his friends and Bob to his family, but it was "Rock," a self-stylized nickname, which became the clever moniker for how he lived. A longtime resident of Pequannock Township, Bob joined the United States Marine Corp in 1967 and then went on to spend 30+ years with the phone company, New Jersey Bell and later Verizon. His retirement was spent in a little place that Bob referred to as "paradise".....Florida.

Bob loved music. Often the only silence was between the songs. His favorite song was "What Time Is It" which is ironic because Bob was usually late. He went to the 9:05, 9:10 or sometimes 9:15 am mass. His family and friends learned to tell him something was earlier than it actually was so maybe he would arrive on time. His favorite beer was "cold and free" that he could enjoy with anyone...anywhere.

A proud veteran, Bob routinely served as an honor guard during his retirement years. He filled up time staying social with lifelong friends, or spending precious time with family in Cape May or just about anywhere. His heart and home were indistinguishable, one was as easy and always open as the other. He was generous with friends and strangers alike, kind, quick to give or lend a hand. He never held a grudge, and was swift to forgive. He never lost his sense of humor, or his faith, even up to the end.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Elizabeth Hess, his brother Phil and his childhood friend Jim Dolan. He is survived by his brother Howard Hess (Kathi), sisters Eileen Dello (Michael) and Kathleen Skrobala (Joseph), and nephews Philip Donchevich, Peter Donchevich, Jason Hess, and nieces Shannon Hess, Sarah Skrobala and Kate Skrobala.  He is also survived by many other family and close friends that loved him and will miss him dearly.

Services are being planned by the family for sometime later this year.

For anyone that knew Bob, they would say he was awesome! Semper Fi!
