Obituary of Richard P. Kaiser

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard P. Kaiser, 86, a longtime resident of Wayne, died Monday, October 11, 2021.

Born in Newark, Richard moved to Wayne as a child, settling on a 5 acre property just off Route 23. Graduating from Pompton Lakes High School, he went on to work as a Tiler for Carpenter's Union 251, joining his father and brothers in the trade.

Marrying Patricia Lougheed, the couple settled on Lewis Street in Wayne before moving back to the family property on Route 23 to raise their three children. Having long held a love of horses, Richard built a horse barn, arena and pasture on the large property, and greatly enjoyed riding and watching his family enjoy the animals.

Richard also held a passion for racing cars, and for many years was a stock car driver in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, and Middletown, New York.

While in his 50s, Richard was involved in a bad car accident that nearly took his life. Though he would spend the rest of his life disabled and unable to work, he was fortunate to be well taken care of by his wife and daughter. He spent his days meticulously caring for his yard, where he took great pride. His hostas, especially, were quite impressive!

After the passing of his wife, Richard remained in the care of his daughter, Denise. He is lovingly survived by his children: Noreen Gratzel and her husband, Stephen, Denise Kaiser-Engler, and Richard Kaiser and his former wife Kerry; his grandchildren, Justin Gratzel and his wife Paola, Kristin Gratzel and her husband Craig Vario, Gary Engler, Christopher Engler and his wife Jessica, Christian Kaiser, Meghan Coffey and her husband Derrick, and Logan Kaiser; as well as his great-grandchildren, Sophia Rose Gratzel, Dylan Vario, and Arianna and Avery Engler.

He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, as well as his siblings, Frank, Carl and Mary Elizabeth Collins.

Funeral services will be held privately for the family.
