Obituary of Irene Margaret Zacharchuk

Irene Margaret Zacharchuk (nee Yatsura), aged 93, passed away peacefully October 11, 2021.  Irene was born December 4, 1927 in Northampton, PA to parents Michael and Elizabeth (nee Petro) Yatsura.  She was a loving and devoted wife of Wallace Zacharchuk, married for 72 years.  Irene was a longtime resident of Cherry Hill, NJ where she was active at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church for many years.  She also enjoyed golfing and was active in the Little Mill Golf Club Women’s League.  Irene had many talents and interests including watercolor and oil painting, quilting, sewing, crocheting and knitting.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends.  Irene was proficient at the New York Times crossword puzzle and enjoyed playing bridge with many different groups.  She also had a musical side enjoying singing and dancing especially to Big Band or Swing Music popular in the 1940’s.  But most of all, Irene was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Wife and Friend.  She always put her family first, embodying “unconditional love” and self-sacrifice and commitment to her family, who loved and adored her.


Irene is survived by her husband Wallace, son Charles and wife Sheila Zacharchuk of Westford, MA and their children Caroline and Michael and her daughter Ann and Jim Menke of Califon, NJ and their children David and Maria.


Irene was sister to Martha Jandrisevits of Northampton, PA.  and was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Mote of  Cleveland, Ohio.


A Service and Celebration of Life Ceremony for Irene will be held Saturday, December 4th at 11:00 am at the Church of the Messiah Episcopal Church located at 50 County Road 513, Chester NJ. 07930.


Irene will be laid to rest at Locustwood Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ.  The Burial will be private.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels, an organization that provides hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors.
