Fern Steele

Obituary of Fern A Steele

Fern A. Steele, 86, of Montville, formerly of Clifton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.  Born in Paterson, Fern was the daughter of Edward and Bertha Bleaken.  She was raised by her paternal aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Herb Bachmann.

Fern was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.  She retired from Clifton Senior High School in 1995 after a 26 year career there.  She was passionate about football, especially the Giants and Eli Manning.  She recently enjoyed watching golf. She was an avid crossword puzzle expert and wouldn’t let the newspaper go unread cover to cover.  In addition to enjoying sports, Fern also was a lover of true crime shows and never missed an episode of 48 hours. Episodes of Friends and Big Bang Theory would always make her laugh out loud.  She passed her fierce love of family, holidays and hospitality onto her children and grandchildren and was always first to arrive at the party, dressed to the nines. Fern’s favorite time was always spent laughing and enjoying the company of her family. She was an intelligent, creative and loving woman who will be deeply missed.

Fern was predeceased by her husband, Thomas “Buddy” Steele.  She is survived by her children Gary T. Steele, Esq. and his wife Fran Steele; Nancy Pennella and her husband Bill; and Thomas Steele.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Jaclyn Bremer and her husband Michael, Anthony Pennella, Brittany Steele, Nicholas Pennella and his wife Kendra, Thomas Steele, Gary Steele, CPA,  Samantha K.
