Edward Moore

Obituary of Edward C Moore

Edward Charles Moore, 66, of Pompton Plains, died January 9, 2022.

Born in Clearwater, Florida,  Ed was raised in Clearwater Beach, and was a graduate of Clearwater High School. Ed developed a love of cooking from his mom, Alice, who was a fabulous cook. He continued his skill development by working at the Pelican Restaurant. Ed followed his passion to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts. While at the CIA, he met his wife, Maureen. They married in 1977. The couple settled in Atlanta, and Ed worked in many aspects of the food service industry.

In 1983, the couple moved to New Jersey and settled in Pompton Plains, which was Maureen’s hometown. The couple started a family, and their daughter, Katie, was born in March of that year. A son, Ryan, completed their family a few years later. While raising their children, the family traveled frequently to Clearwater Beach to see family, friends, and the beautiful sunsets that Ed grew up with. Ed passed along his love of the beach and cooking to both his children. During those years, Ed also earned a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, as well as a brown belt in Kung Fu. He also volunteered many hours on the Pequannock First Aid Squad, and took on the role of vice president, in service to his town and community.

Ed worked in many aspects of the food service industry. He had the opportunity to meet and cook for many interesting people, and he enjoyed sharing those stories later in life. One particularly memorable group was the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that sang for him and the staff after he cooked their meal. Ed was an extremely hard worker, and was well respected in every kitchen he entered. He had the wonderful ability to be able to talk to just about anyone, and he finished his career as a Food and Nutrition Director.

When diabetes complications took him out of the workplace, Ed did not let that stop him. He went back to school and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in paralegal studies from Montclair State University. He used his vast knowledge, expertise, and friendly demeanor to volunteer as SHIP counselor for the state of New Jersey. Ed helped many people through the complexities of the healthcare system.

Ed was a funny, intelligent person and a dedicated grandfather. Ed was also our personal newsman, always letting us know the politics of the day, the weather, and where the traffic was for our commutes. Ed loved nothing more than his wife, a good meal, and his beloved dog, Bert, who was his constant companion until the end. Ed also took great joy in his grandchildren, who were a constant source of entertainment, noise, and energy in his life for the last 12 years. “Papa Ed” was the griller extraordinaire, and joke teller at dinner. He was a good friend, neighbor, and was deeply loved by his family. His compassion, thoughtfulness and wisdom will be missed.

Ed is lovingly survived by his wife, Maureen (nee Cunningham) and his sister and brother in law, Simona and Paul Rodgers. Ed is also survived by his daughter, Katherine and her children, and his son, Ryan and his wife Heather. He also leaves behind 4 grandsons, Luke, Logan, Charlie and Chris. Ed is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Alice Moore.
