Joan Gillesheimer

Obituary of Joan Marie Gillesheimer

Joan Marie Gillesheimer of Oak Ridge, NJ, died on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, with family by her side after a short but brave fight with a sudden illness.  Born September 16th, 1943, in Bronx N.Y., she was the daughter of Philip Janosky and Elizabeth Duchek.  The family, including sister Phyllis and brother Richard, moved from Bronx N.Y. to Lodi N.J. where Joan completed her education at Lodi High School.

Joan was the caring and strong single mother of two daughters:  Deborah and Joan Camilliere born from her first marriage to John Camilliere.  In 1982 she married her loving second husband George Gillesheimer III and extended her love to her stepson, George Gillesheimer IV.

Joan’s career included working for Dr. Wood as a veterinary technician at  Bloomingdale Veterinary Hospital. This position made good use of her love for  animals which she surrounded herself with all her life.  During the larger span of her work history,  she served in a management role at Aramis / Estee Lauder, Oakland, NJ for 23 years.   After her retirement from Estee Lauder, she worked as a bookkeeper for her husband George’s company, Action Coffee of Hackensack, NJ.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Family and tradition meant everything to her, especially during the holidays, where she was renowned for her amazing cooking, baking and generosity. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion . Joan enjoyed reading, entertaining, shopping, bowling, sewing, crime shows, the beach, and spending time with her friends. Her grandchildren Willem and Madison were her pride and joy.  She was their biggest fan and cheerleader.

She was an incredibly strong woman who in her later years was battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia but lived her life to the fullest enjoying her family.

Joan will be missed dearly by her loving husband George, daughters Deborah Ann (Camilliere) Van Walsum  and Joan Marie (Camilliere) Lee, son George IV and his partner Amanda Krpicak, son-in-law Martin Van Walsum, grandchildren Madison and Willem as well as countless family members and friends.
