Obituary of Anne Marie Barcheski
Nancy Barcheski, 87, a resident of Pompton Lakes, passed away peacefully on February 4, with her children by her side.
Nancy was born and grew up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY to her loving parents Mae and Benjamin Peters. She was one of 9 children and grew up in a wonderful family, surrounded by love. Nancy has left behind her beloved youngest sister, Bernadette. Nancy met her husband Peter in a Knights of Columbus. She sang Mr. Wonderful to him and believed him to be just that. Pete was loved fiercely by Nancy and Pete was a great Dad to his 3 children.
As a young woman Nancy worked first at Hearst Publications and then at a law firm as a secretary.
Once in Pompton Lakes Nancy and Pete had three children Diane, Peter and Mark. Nancy leaves behind her wonderful Grandchildren Michele and Garret (and wife Julia) and precious three Great Grandchildren Evan James, River and Autumn. She also considered her dear friend Alex Clark, to be an extra Grandson.
Nancy loved and was active in St Mary’s school and volunteered as a remedial reading instructor there. She played volleyball with a league at St Mary’s and loved singing with the Adult Choir for many years. Her faith was powerful. She also volunteered at Lincoln School, working in the cafeteria.
Nancy always opened her doors to her children's friends and neighbor kids. They always had a place to hang out and play after school. The Barcheski family had a great time playing backyard volleyball. Unbeknownst to many, Nancy had strong athletic abilities and was great at volleyball and basketball.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 2-6 pm at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held 9 am Wednesday at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Cremation will be private.
Respectfully serving families for generations
