Obituary of Helen Katrin Vollmers

Helen Katrin Vollmers, a longtime resident of Pequannock Township, died at home Sunday, February 6, 2022. She was 89.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Katrin was the daughter of John and Helen Robertson. At the age of three, she moved to Germany to live with family, and for more than a decade was cared for by her extended family. The relationships she formed there during that time remained strong throughout her life, and she would routinely return to Germany to visit her extended family there.

Returning to New York City as a teenager, Katrin attended an all-girls high school in Manhattan. Following graduation, she began working as a bookkeeper, and for many years was employed by a hat maker in New York City.

Katrin was blessed with the births of four children, and moved to Pequannock to raise them. She became a very active and social member of the town, and regulary was busy with friends and neighbors at the Pequannock Seniors house, where she most enjoyed playing cards.

Once her children were born, Katrin stayed home to raise them, but returned to the workforce to work for her son, Cord, while he ran Travel Limousine in Pequannock. She was very helpful as the office manager of the company for many years, officially retiring in 1997.

Katrin will always be remembered for her beautiful handwriting. She had a gift for writing letters, and corresponded with her relatives across the world in lengthy letters she would regularly send out. She was known to always be sure to send a thank you card, even for the most minor of acts, for she was always grateful to those around her.

Katrin was again blessed with the births of three grandchildren: Derek, Alex and Courtney. She was an active "Oma" to each of them, and was very helpful to her children while they were raising their babies. At the age of 88, she was delighted to welcome the birth of her great-grandson, Logan, and earn the title of "Great-Oma".

Katrin was a dear friend to many, and absolutely adored by her family. She was a devoted Oma to many, not just her direct relatives, and will be dearly missed.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Karla Parks and her husband Tom, and Clint Vollmers and his wife Sheila; her grandchildren, Alex and her wife Evan, Courtney, and Derek and his wife Danielle; and her great-grandson, Logan.

She was predeceased by her sons, Peter and Cord.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, February 16 from 3-5 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 4:30 pm to conclude visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pequannock Township First Aid Squad in Katrin's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family.
