Obituary of Gordon DeBlock
Gordon DeBlock, 105, of Cedar Crest Retirement Village, Pompton Plains, passed peacefully on February 10, 2022.
Born in Haledon, NJ to Cornelius and Amelia DeBlock, he attended public schools and Drake Business School in Paterson, NJ.
All of his full time work years were in the transportation industry. During WWII, he worked in the Controller’s office at Sealand Lines. It was an essential military industry so he was exempt from military service.
He and his wife Ruth moved to Cedar Crest in 2005. Sadly, Ruth passed away in 2008. Gordon was a member of the Cedar Crest Protestant Community since 2006. He had been a member of the Council and Treasurer since 2008. While at Cedar Crest, he had been a member of the Wii bowling and golf teams.
Gordon had 2 children, Skip DeBlock and Barabra D. Tanis. Skip passed away in 2018. Gordon is survived by his daughter, Barbara D. Tanis, his daughter-in-law, Verna DeBlock, his grandchildren, Peter J. Tanis, Jr., Matthew G. Tanis and his wife Carmen, Rae Ann Mahlstadt and her husband TJ, Christine Lyasko and her husband Peter, and his four great grandchildren, Megan, Shane, Owen and McKenna.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, February 14 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral service will be held 10 am on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
