Obituary of Elizabeth DeFeo

Elizabeth “Betty” (Portella) DeFeo, 80, of Pompton Plains passed away February 16, 2022.

Betty, the daughter of Louis and Marie Portella was raised in Paterson, NJ.  She worked at First National Bank and then for many years worked as an office manager for Higgin’s Optical. She married the love of her life, Peter in 1964. They had two children which they raised in Pompton Plains.

Betty enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a devoted Catholic and was a proud parishioner and usher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pompton Plains.

Betty is survived by her children, Cara Van Zile and her husband Walt, David DeFeo and his wife Colleen, her grandchildren; Samantha and Zachary Van Zile and Andrew and Bradley DeFeo, her brother Vincent Portella and his wife Cindy, sister in laws Judy DeFeo and Nancy DeFeo, her brother in law Robert and his wife Diane DeFeo.  Betty will be reunited by the Lord with her husband Peter.  She was predeceased by her brother in law Tony, her parents Louis and Marie, her father in law Tony and mother in law Lee.

Viewing hours will be held Monday February 21, 2022 from 5-8pm at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday February 22, 2022 at 10 am at Our Lady of Magnificat RC Church in Kinnelon with interment following at the church cemetery.
