Obituary of Robert A Denn, Sr.
Robert A Denn, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains passed away peacefully at his home on February 22, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born in Salem, NJ, he was the youngest child of Charles Winfield Denn and Grace A. Denn.
He moved from Salem to Richmond Hill, Queens, graduating Richmond Hill High School.
At the age of 19, he joined the United States Air Force and after a short time he achieved the rank of sergeant.
Bob loved being in the Air Force and really enjoyed the beauty Alaska had to offer. He was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska and learned how to ski, fish and camp while living there . He then continued to serve at the March Air Base in Riverside, California.
Once he was discharged from the Air Force he went back home to NY and met the love of his life Joan Patricia Brooks. They fell in love and were married on August 4th 1956.
They had 5 children and moved their family to Pompton Plains where they made their home for 51 years.
Bob worked for the NY Telephone Company as an installer and was promoted to management. He worked for the Telephone Company for 26 years and was able to retire at 51 in 1983. He always gave Joan credit for his early retirement because she was so good with money. He wanted to retire early so he could spend time with his beautiful wife Joan.
Bob and Joan were often seen walking and holding hands throughout the lovely town of Pompton Plains.
Some of Bob’s fondest memories include camping and hiking at Stokes State Forest and fishing in the Hamptons with his family. He also taught his children how to ski and enjoyed many wonderful ski trips with them.
Bob always put his family first , he adored his children , grandchildren and the new addition of his great grandson. He truly had a beautiful marriage with Joan and felt blessed to be surrounded by his family’s love.
He is known for his light hearted laugh and sense of humor.
Bob is lovingly survived by his children; Robert Denn Jr, Kathleen Pearl, Stephen Denn, Eileen Denn, Peter Denn and his wife Patricia. His grandchildren; Patrick, Brianna, Heidi, Bobby, Brooke, Brian, Tim, April, Amanda, Taylor and his great grandson Mason.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan and his siblings Charles, Joseph, Winifred and Charlotte.
Visiting hours will be at Scanlan Funeral Home on February 25th between the hours of 4 pm to 8 pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday , February 26th at 1pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pompton Plains.
