Joan Auletta

Obituary of Joan Auletta

Joan Auletta, 89, of Bloomingdale, died at home Saturday, February 26, 2022 in the care of her loving family.

Born at home in Pompton Lakes, Joan was the daughter of Edward and Mary Gormley. Raised in Pompton Lakes, and later Butler, she was a 1951 graduate of Butler High School.

Marrying Robert Lees, the couple settled in Pompton Lakes, and together raised three sons and a daughter. Joan was a great mom, and supported her children in everything they did. She was always a very social person, and really enjoyed getting together with the "Cupsaw Crowd" to play cards or go bowling. She and Robert really enjoyed going out dancing, and generally having a good time together.

In 1983, Joan experienced the death of her youngest son, Michael, and just six months later, lost her husband Robert as well. Though that was a very difficult time, the love of family and dear friends carried her through.

In 1999, Joan married Vito Auletta, and the couple settled in Bloomingdale, where they enjoyed retirement.

Joan was a dear friend to many, and throughout her long illness, she was wonderfully supported by the love and care they all showed to her. She was fiercely stylish throughout her life, and she will be fondly remembered for the wonderful outfits she was always known to wear.

Joan is lovingly survived by her husband, Vito; her children, Robert Lees and his wife Diana, Donald Lees and his wife Patricia, and Theresa Arthur; Step son Thomas and his wife Veronica, Step daughter Marilyn McGrath Vnencak and her husband Robert; her grandchildren, Brittany Lees, Jennifer Guglielmino and her husband Matt, David Lees, Amie Munley and her wife Kathryn, and Andrew Arthur; as well as her great-grandchildren, Madyson, Mason, Landon and Cooper. Joan was blessed to gain 4 other grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren on Vito's side.

Visitation will be held 10 am Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pompton Plains, followed by an 11 am Mass at the church. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory to the Arthritis Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
