Obituary of William J Anders

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William “Bill” J. Anders, Jr., 79, passed away April 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born to William and Anna Anders and grew up in Union City, NJ. After high school, Bill started to work for J.P Morgan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and served until 1969. He was in the armor division and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.  He continued his way up at JP Morgan from a bank clerk to a Vice President for Stock Investment. Bill worked with J.P Morgan for more than 40 years until his retirement.

Bill was an avid bowler, involved in many bowling leagues around NJ. He and Debbie were routinely a part of the Saturday Night Fun League. Freshwater fishing was another favorite pastime he shared with his friends and family. He loved being on the water in a boat or near a river or stream. The outdoors in the sun was where he wanted to be.

He was also a proud volunteer, coaching with Pequannock Little League, coaching his grandchildren which he enjoyed the most. When he wasn’t coaching them, he would be the loudest spectator in the bleachers. He was their number one cheerleader. His family was everything to him and was an especially proud grandfather. As his family grew and grew, his heart was filled with more love the bigger it became. He was thrilled to meet his first great-grandchild, Asher John.

Bill was laid back and enjoyed life.  He was proud of his heritage. He claims German, Polish and an adopted Irishman heritage. Honestly, with the influence of his wife Betty, he was forever Irish. Bill was protective of the important things in his life, such as his family. He was a sincere, helpful and loyal friend and always kept an open mind to learn and understand more about others. He also loved the time he and Debbie had with their fur baby Jessie.

Bill is survived by his loving life partner Debbie Gessler; his daughter Jacki Griffith and son David and his wife Adriana; his daughters Janice Vitcavich and her husband Bruce, Susan Gessler, Jennifer Sokalski and her husband Randy and his daughter-in law Donna Anderson; his sons George Anderson and his wife Jamie, Vinny Anderson and his wife Kathleen; his beloved  grandchildren Lauren, Anna, and Connor Griffith, Jordan, Jared, and Giuliana Anders, Noah Anderson and his wife Nikki,  Joelle, Caleb, and Ailey Anderson, Kelly Prestano and her husband John, Michael  Vitcavich and fiancé Maggie Mowbray, Craig and Megan Anderson,  Stephen Lijoi, and John Sokalski; and his great grandchild Asher John Prestano.

Bill is predeceased by his parents William and Anna Anders, his sisters Kathleen, Virginia, and Norma and his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty”  Anders with whom he loved and shared his life with for over 24 years.
