Donald Miguel

Obituary of Donald Miguel

Donald Miguel passed away peacefully at his home with his family around him on Sunday, May 29, 2022.

Donald was born in New York City and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1948. He attended Kings Point Academy and served in the Sea Bees during the Korean War.

He met the love of his life, the late Matilda Miguel, at a dance in New York City while he was in Kings Point. Donald and Matilda married in 1956 and lived in New York City, Garfield, NJ, and Butler, NJ before moving to Pequannock in 1968. He was a blue seal stationary engineer and was a member of Local 68 before retiring in 1995. He was a dependable and selfless father, always putting his family's needs first. He had a witty sense of humor and could always be found fixing something, whether automotive or in the home.

He is survived by his son, Donald Miguel Jr. of East Stroudsburg, PA; his daughters, Janet Jones of Pompton Plains, and Diane Metzler and her husband Donald Metzler of Pompton Plains; and his grandchildren, Evan Meyer and his wife Darya Terracina of Duluth, GA, Steven Jones of Pompton Plains, Reese and Ryan Metzler of Pompton Plains, and Elizabeth and Julianna Handibode of Selden, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Matilda in 2005 and his daughter, Jennifer Miguel, in 2022.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, June 2, 2022, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the First Reformed Cemetery in Pompton Plains.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Donald's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a charity he gave to monthly for decades.
