Obituary of Esther G. Giannattasio
Esther G. Giannattasio, 95, of Lincoln Park, died at home in the care of her loving family on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
Born in Manhattan, Esther was the daughter of Luca and Concetta Munni. Alongside her brothers Angelo, Benny and sister Rose, she was raised in East New York.
During World War II, she worked as a Seamstress in Manhattan's garment district. While out dancing with her sister Rose at the Rathskeller Night Club, she caught the eye of Anthony Giannattasio, an Army soldier who had just returned home from WWII. The two became engaged, and on November 14, 1953, they wed.
The new couple settled in Park Slope, and there they lovingly raised two sons and a daughter. Esther returned to the workforce once all her children were in school, and loved her job as a Cafeteria Aid at Brooklyn Tech High School, where she worked for almost 20 years.
In 1977, Esther and Anthony moved to Lincoln Park, NJ, to help care for her father. Esther was always devoted to her family, and never shied away from caring for those she loved. She spoiled her husband, children and grandchildren with delicious homecooked meals, and everyone was especially delighted with her famous meatballs and crab sauce pastina.
Esther and Anthony were Florida snowbirds for many years, and enjoyed Daytona Beach with family and friends greatly. They lived a quiet, simple life together, enjoying the love they shared and time spent with those they loved. As long as Esther was surrounded by her family (which always included her beloved granddogs), she was happy.
Esther is lovingly survived by her children, Stephen Giannattasio and his wife Debbie, Anthony Giannattasio, and Patricia Kline and her husband Chris; her brother, Angelo Munni; her sister-in-law, Grace Mazzola; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Stefanie, Michael, Anthony, Christopher, and Mackenzie; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony, as well as her brother, Benny Munni and sister, Rose Armato.
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Monday at Our Lady of Magnificat Church, Kinnelon. Burial will follow in the church's cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Esther's memory to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
