Obituary of Albert J. Daley
Albert J. Daley, 84, a longtime resident of Pompton Lakes, died Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains.
Born in Staten Island, NY, Albert moved to Butler as a teenager, and graduated from Butler High School. While working at the Riverdale Post Office, he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army, and spent two years in South Carolina as an Army Police Officer.
Returning to New Jersey, Albert returned to work at the Riverdale Post Office, and there met Gail McCree, the woman who would become his wife. The two married on May 8, 1971, and together settled in Pompton Lakes to raise their daughters.
Albert was always a skilled cardplayer and knew how to place a good bet on horse races. He even won enough to spoil Gail with a month-long honeymoon to Miami and the Caribbean islands. He played with many friends over the years, who always enjoyed his good company, even when he was winning their money.
Retiring from the Riverdale Post Office as Postmaster after 38 years, Albert continued working for another 20 years for Valley Parts. Never one to like to sit still, he also stayed busy working on his pool and on his gardens, cooking, BBQing and baking his famous Christmas cookies. His family always enjoyed being spoiled with the delicious treats he would make.
Albert is lovingly survived by his wife, Gail, and his daughters, Meredith and Meghan. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Bickerton.
Funeral services are being handled privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Albert's memory to St. Hubert's Animal Sanctuary or Patch would be greatly appreciated by the Daley family.
