Obituary of Catherine F. Scanlan

Catherine Flora (nee DeGraff) Scanlan, age 89, passed away on September 15, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, on September 8, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine (Jahn) DeGraff. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John Joseph "Jack" Scanlan, and grandson Michael Steven Scanlan. Catherine lived in Paterson most of her life, and moved to St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly in Totowa eight years ago. She had been a member of both St. Agnes and St. George parishes, and had worked in the office of St. Agnes School, was a unit clerk at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, and secretary in the Guidance Department of Don Bosco Technical School in Paterson. She was a gifted poet and a homemaker who enjoyed baking cookies and doing needlework.

Beloved mother of three daugthers, Maurya Muse and her husband Ronald, Meganne Gunn and her husband Kevin, and Maeve Scanlan; a son, John Scanlan; sister to Johanna Wiedler; and grandmother of John "Jay", Gianna and Lucia Scanlan.

Visitation will be held from 9 am to 10 am on Saturday, September 17 at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly, 140 Shepherds Lane, Totowa, NJ 07512. A Rosary Service will conclude the visitation at 10 am. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am. Cremation will be private.
