

Obituary of Edward L Clark
Edward Lawrence Clark, 89, of Butler, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2022 surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born in Totowa, Edward was the son of Raymond and Anna Salvato Clark. After graduating from St. Mary High School, in Paterson, he attended St. Andrew-on-Hudson Jesuit Seminary for two years before earning his bachelor's degree in education from St. Peter's and his master's degree from Seton Hall. Edward began his career at Pequannock Township High School in 1959 as an English teacher before transitioning to the role of guidance counselor, ultimately retiring as the District Director of Guidance in 1995. He also served as the tennis coach and was well-liked among the students and faculty.
A man of deep faith, Edward was dedicated to his home parish of St. Anthony's of Padua in Butler. He was also a member of The Secular Franciscan Order. Edward proudly served in the US Army and was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. There, he served as the assistant to the Catholic Chaplain.
Edward married Joette Frankovic on June 13, 1959 and the couple settled in Butler to raise their three daughters. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed sharing his love of fly fishing with his grandchildren, traveling with Joette, gardening, and working on his many projects around the house with his beloved dogs in tow.
Edward is lovingly survived by his wife of 63 years; daughters, Toni Kiernan and her husband Timothy, Elise Silversey, and Valerie Bross and her husband Anthony; his brother, Raymond Clark; his grandchildren, Terrence , Brija, and Joseph Ruggiero, Kymm Spillane and her husband Ryan, Dylon Silversey and his wife Alicia, Emily Silversey, Arie Van Wingerden and his wife Amanda, Brian Van Wingerden and his wife Andrea, Edward and Katie Van Wingerden, Tala and Sage Bross; and his great grandchildren, Ryder, Nolan, and Izabella Spillane, Hudson Silversey, and Brooke, Reagan, and Addison Van Wingerden. He was predeceased by his brother, John Clark.
Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, September 30th at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at St. Anthony's of Padua Church, Butler. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Magnificat Cemetery, Kinnelon.
