Loretta Cochran Trudel, a longtime resident of Wayne, died peacefully Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Center in Fredon. She was 89. 

Born in Rutherford, NJ, Loretta was the daughter of Earl and Lela (nee Cochran) Kress. Growing up in Rutherford. NJ, she attended the local high school and was a proud drum majorette. She was a graduate of Fredonia State University Teachers College in New York. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Music Education. She served in the university's Junior Band as a Flutist, and was also its secretary. 

Loretta began her career as a Supervisor of Music in the Carlstadt Public School system. She also worked as a Travel Agent, and earned her license in real estate. Her love was in music, though, and she spent her lifetime as a private piano teacher.

Marrying Stephen Trudel, the couple settled in Wayne in 1963, where they built a house, which became a home as they raised their three children together. 

Loretta was a lifetime member of the West Beach Grayline, the Bridge Club, She also enjoyed bowling, skiing, sailing, swimming, water aerobics, camping and traveling throughout her life.

Loretta is lovingly survived by her children, Steve and Karen. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, and her son, Wayne.

A memorial gathering will be held 1-3 pm Saturday, October 22 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home in Pompton Plains. A service of remembrance will take place at 3 pm. Burial will be held privately.
