Obituary of Dorothy Groener
Dorothy Groener, 95, of Pompton Plains, passed away on October 28,2022 .
The daughter of the late John and Frieda Peterson, Dorothy grew up in Newark. She married Roy Groener on April 23, 1949, and the couple settled in Pompton Plains to raise their family. Dorothy worked as the secretary for the First Reformed Church in Pompton Plains for 17 years and was an active member and part of the choir. She also loved bowling and aerobics, but nothing was more important to her than her family and dear friends. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was the biggest fan at all their events.
Dorothy is lovingly survived by her children, Kathy Sturla and her husband Bob, David Groener and his wife Kathleen, Susan Halliday and her husband Mark, and Judy Nixon and her husband Bob; her sister, Patricia Lento; her grandchildren, Rob Sturla and his wife Paula, Scott Sturla and his wife Christine, Jim Sturla and his wife Alison, Kristin Groener, David Groener, Justin Halliday and his wife Lisa, Kaitlyn Rubano and her husband Rob, Jordan Halliday and his wife Hannah, Benjamin Burklow and his wife Diana, Morgan Burklow and his wife Jacqueline, and Roy Nixon; she was blessed with 20 great grandchildren Samantha, Victoria, Elizabeth, Jagger, Mason, Jordan, Haley, Michael, Brody, Julian, Olivia, Jameson, Everly, Francesca, Asher, Judah, Shiloh, Levi, Morgan, and Gabrielle. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; and her brother, Jack Peterson, and her brother-in-law Dennis Lento.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday October 29, 2022 from 7-10pm. A funeral service will be held at the First Reformed Church, Pompton Plains at 2pm on Sunday October 30. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory to the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains would be greatly appreciated by her family.
