Obituary of Lorraine Sproul

Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lorraine Dorothy Sproul, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Franklin Lakes, Ridgewood and Ho-ho-kus, died Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Born in Jersey City, Lorraine was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Leather. Raised in Ridgewood, she was a graduate of Ridgewood High School.

Marrying Jim Sproul, the couple settled in Ridgewood to raise their children. Lorraine was a stay-at-home mom for many years, caring for her home and her family with loving devotion. When her children were grown, she returned to the workforce, and was employed for over 40 years by Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, where she worked in the transportation department. She loved her job there, and was grateful for its routine after her husband's passing in 2007.

Shortly after losing Jim, Lorraine reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Paul Smith, who had also recently lost his spouse. The two fell in love again, and in 2010 were married. Lorraine and Paul enjoyed life together in Franklin Lakes before moving to Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains five years ago.

Throughout her life, Lorraine enjoyed family vacations to the Jersey Shore, especially visiting cousins in Avon-by-the-Sea, and trips to Long Beach Island. Camping was also a family staple, and Lorraine was able to see much of the East Coast with her family in their pop-top camper.

Lorraine was a kind, thoughtful, and loving person, who always wanted the best for others. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Smith; her children, Jim Sproul and his wife Janeen, and Linda Sproul and her husband Bernie Lambek; her brothers, Tom Leather and his wife Mary Alice, and Bob Leather; her grandchildren, Dominic Lambek and his wife Karen, Matthew Lambek and his wife Alex Wenger, and William Lambek; her great-grandchildren, Siena, Evan, Wes, Wylie, and Casey; and her nieces, Holly, Cindy and Nancy.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Jim Sproul, and her son, David Sproul.

Funeral services are being handled privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Parkinson's Foundation  would be greatly appreciated by Lorraine's family. Donations can be made on the website at www.Parkinson.org
