Obituary of Paula Kemenczy

Please share a memory of Paula to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Paula H. Kemenczy (nee Hock), 86, a resident of Belvedere, peacefully passed away on November 9, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Paula was born in The Banat, which is a geographical region that straddles Central and Eastern Europe and is currently divided among three countries; however, she always considered Salzburg Austria her childhood hometown. While in Salzburg Paula excelled academically, and learned to swim and ski. She would fondly recall at Christmas the time she was a performer in a live nativity scene performed for the benefit of injured American soldiers recuperating after the war. Upon immigrating to the United States, she attended Remington High School in Virginia, where she graduated Salutatorian. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper. In 1955 she met and married Laszlo (Laci) Kemenczy and travelled with him to multiple US Army duty stations. In 1964 the family settled in Fair Lawn where they raised their three sons. Paula was a long-time member of the Sweet Adelines International, a women’s chorus, where she performed in multiple competitions, parades, and civic gatherings. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed the shore, especially walking the Spring Lake Boardwalk with her sister Katherine. Paula was not only beautiful in appearance, but also in spirit. She made everyone around her feel loved and special.

Paula joins her beloved husband, Laci, who predeceased her in 2014. She is survived by her children John L. Kemenczy, Esq. (wife Maggie), Ronald M. Kemenczy (wife Sandy) and Steven P. Kemenczy; her six grandchildren Ronnie, Jessica, Bryan, Stephanie, Meghan, and Robert; and four great-grandchildren Fiona, August, Laszlo, and Ronan. She is also survived by her sister Katherine Hock, nieces Debra Hansson and Karen Roman, and great-nieces Tyanna Hansson and Rebecca Hansson. Paula was predeceased by her beloved parents Joseph Hock, Margareta Hock and brother Joseph Hock.
