Obituary of Mary T. Grieco

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary T. Grieco “Mary Ann”, 88, passed away on November 20, 2022. Mary Ann was born to Joseph and Mary Grieco in NYC and grew up in Hackensack, NJ. She moved to Oakland, NJ in the 1960s and then settled in Kinnelon, NJ for the last 14 years. Mary Ann graduated from Hackensack High School and then later St. Michael’s School of Nursing. She earned her B.S.N. at Seton Hall University. Mary Ann proudly served as a Reserve Commissioned Officer of the Army (First Lieutenant).

Mary Ann’s passion for her career as a nurse moved on to being supervisor at St. Michael’s Medical Center and later to be one of the founding members of the A&A Nurses Registry in Ridgewood, NJ. She was devoted to caring for others and was last employed with Bergen Regional Medical Center where she worked until she was 80 years old.

Mary Ann was devoted to her faith and family. She was a parishioner and Eucharist Minister at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church in Kinnelon. She was devoted to caring for her parents before their passing. Although she did not have children of her own, Mary Ann treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She passed along that same love and affection later, when she gained great nieces and nephews and again when she gained great-great nieces and nephews. They were all treated with love and compassion and she gave the same to others. She loved to shop, was generous and giving to everyone, and truly enjoyed being able to give more to others than herself. Mary Ann will always be remembered as “Auntie” to her family and will also be remembered for her famous Lindy dancing, as she was nicknamed “Lindy” by her fellow nurses at St. Michael's.

Mary Ann is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Grieco. She is survived by her sister Dolores Gesumaria; her nieces and nephews Sharon Williams and her husband John, Diane Kasper, Edward Kasper and his wife Christine, Joseph Kasper and his wife Tammy, and John Kasper; her great nieces and nephews Jessica Williams Bley, Christian, Stacy, Branden, Nolan, Alyssa, Samantha, Victoria and Masen Kasper; and her great-great nieces and nephews Camryn, Dylan and Ean Kasper and Layla, Mia and Colton Bley.

A wake will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 4-8pm at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held in Mary Ann’s honor on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10am. Please meet directly at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ following the Mass.
