Obituary of Michele Shaw

Michele Shaw, 73, of Kinnelon, passed away on November 29, 2022.

The daughter of William and Helen Murphy, Michele was born in Shelby, Montana and lived there until she was 8 years old. Her family then moved to Kinnelon where Michele graduated from high school. She earned her bachelor's degree from Ramapo State College and graduated valedictorian, later earning her Master’s degree there, all while being a full-time working mother of two. She was ahead of her time in this regard. She worked for many years as the executive manager for BAE Systems in Wayne.

Michele married John Shaw in the spring of 1968, and the couple lived in Germany while John was serving in the US Army. Their son was born there, and they later welcomed a daughter into their family. Michele was an avid bowler and a talented artist who loved crafting and quilting. She also enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and listening to music from the 50s and 60s. Incredibly beautiful in her younger days, she was fiercely intelligent and also had a wonderful sense of humor. 

Michele is lovingly survived by her husband, John James Shaw; her son, John Kevin Shaw; her daughter, Kathryn Marie Shaw; her sisters, Kathryn Murphy, Marita Dowell, and Pamela Kucks; her grandchildren, Sydney, Kevin, and Kelsey Shaw, Ryan Dones, and Clay Yu; her nephews John Douglas and Jim; nieces Hannah and Abby; and many cousins.

Memorial visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm Saturday, December 17 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A memorial service will be held during the visitation at 8:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Michele's memory to Doctors Without Borders would be greatly appreciated by her family.
