Louis A. Roberts, 68, of Pompton Plains, passed away on December 27, 2022.

The son of the late William and Rose Roberts, Louis grew up in Cliffside Park and Garfield. He enlisted in the US Army after high school and served 3 years active duty as a paratrooper. Louis met Mary Ann Scifo in 1976 and the couple married in 1982, living in Clifton and Wallington before settling in Pompton Plains in 1985. Coach Lou, as he was affectionately known, loved sports and especially enjoyed watching the NY Mets and NY Giants. He volunteered his time coaching baseball and football for over 15 years and was an umpire and referee for many sports teams in Pequannock Township.

Louis is lovingly survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann; his son, Louis Roberts and his wife Maria; his daughter, Lacey Vitetta and her husband Alexander; his brother, William Roberts; his sister, Rose Roberts; his grandchildren, Aria, Hudson, and Gemma Vitetta, and Luca and Kaia Roberts; his brother and sister in-law, Joseph and Yolanda Scifo, and his niece, Tiffany Scifo; his brother and sister in-law, John and Kim Chorba, and his nephews, John and Dillon Chorba; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.

Visiting hours will be held from 3:00-8:00 pm Monday, January 2 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 3 at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering or Wounded Warriors would be greatly appreciated.
