My open letter to my younger brother,
Well Richard, you forgot that I’m your big sister and you went ahead & passed me by on January 7th, 2023.
I found a meaning for broken heart, half a heart is for Joy that you are with Jesus with no pain and are happy.
Other half of heart is for us who mourn you, won’t hear your voice or see your smile or be with you in body any longer.
That explains what I’m feeling, I’m broken-hearted for the loss of my kid brother.
Rich, as I sink into my memories I remember when you invited me to dinner and to see Pavarotti sing on Broadway. We both love Italian music ( I can thank Linda for that , she couldn’t go and he decided to take me.
You follow tradition, this may not seem huge, but he insisted that the sauce or gravy should cook for 3 hours, all fresh ingredients and loud Italian music in the background.
Rich we were like twins but born in different years
We really understood each other, had many of the same expressions , same likes and dislike. If something should be , hot it should be very hot, to be cold , lots of ice. We loved to talk on the phone about play by play of the Yankee game.. they say our laugh and smile are the same, only you have two dimples and I have only one,our love to dance, Linda and I took turns dancing the Lindy with Richard and Linda and I got to dance the Polka ‘s together. Bottom line, Lefty hates to dance. How about the Richard’s Tip , when we were kids and got into trouble I would quickly Confess, but you firmly stood your ground. The Tip: when you Lie never ever back
down”. Makes me laugh cause Rich your the most honest and truthful person iI know.
Thank you for being an usher at Lefty and my wedding, you were 16 and I was 19. You were a young usher and I was so proud to have you.
You were always a wonderful Uncle, every niece and nephew adored you and your sense of humor. You were always there for the rescue.
A very proud moment for me was going with you, dad and Lefty to the boxing tournament at St Anthony’s on the west side, . The fighter who was to fight the top fight was a no show. There in the boxing rink stood 12 year old Richard who never had boxing gloves on and fighting for the title.. My knees were shaking and Lefty was cheering you on . Next thing your standing with this huge trophy, we were so proud. It took courage, stamina, and strength which you had through your entire life.
I think you didn’t realize you were the Golden Child in the family. I’m sure you know now.
Don’t think about writing back, I’ll see you in every memory, in every Italian song , every Yankee game, black and white movie , in Christmas Stockings , in Easter baskets where you stole my jelly beans or was it I stole yours ?
Rich If you visit me, I hope it’s in my dreams.
I don’t want to hold you up, I’m sure there is a line of relative and friends waiting to welcome you. I’m sure Anthony and Big Lou are happy to watch with you the Giants play in the postseason game onHeavens big TV called Sky.
Lefty loves you and was so happy you visited while he was in the hospital. I’m sorry if I was long in this better, but I could keep going.
