Obituary of Elvira M. Weller
Elvira M. Weller, of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, died at home Monday, February 20, 2023. She was 93.
Born in Fair Haven, NJ; Elvira was the daughter of Malcolm and Rose von Taborsky. Raised in Fort Lee, she was a 1948 graduate of Fort Lee High School.
Marrying Raymond Weller in 1952, the couple lived first in Leonia and Palisade Park before settling in Northvale to raise two sons. Both employed by NJ Bell, Elvira spent most of her career working as a switchboard operator, though later was in the Installation and Repair Department.
Following retirement, Elvira and Raymond moved to Manchester, where they enjoyed much of their time by the ocean. The couple lived in Manchester until moving to Cedar Crest in 2016.
Elvira was a longtime volunteer with Head Start in Hackensack, a charity committed to helping children and their families access free health services of the highest quality right in their own communities.
Throughout their marriage, Elvira and Raymond loved to travel. They were able to visit much of the United States, including Alaska and California, and even got to far away places like Australia and New Zealand. Some of their favorite trips were cruising the Caribbean with their friends. Always known to enjoy the casinos, they loved to visit Atlantic City and Vegas.
After moving to Cedar Crest, Elvira quickly made friends, as she always had. She was a very lovely, personable woman, who delighted in conversation with those around her. She will be dearly missed.
Elvira is survived by her sons, Richard Raymond Weller and his wife Kathleen, and Robert Weller and his wife Cathy; her grandchildren, Michelle Laauwe and her husband Kyle, Julie Lettieri and her husband John, and Kristen Weller and her partner Gary Stetz; as well as her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Annabella and Lucas. She was predeceased by her loving husband Raymond, her sister Sylvia and brother Malcolm.
Memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, February 28 from 4:30 - 6:30 PM at the Chapel at Cedar Crest Village, Pompton Plains. Cremation was held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elvira's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
