I am not one of the lucky people who knew Kim well. In fact, since we met (through a mutual friend) back in the 80's, our lives had only intersected on a handful of occasions. And yet, each time they did, I was touched by her extraordinary warmth and kindness.
It was through a church bulliton that I learned of her request for prayers, and it was through the same today that I sadly learned of her passing.
My heart goes out to her family and friends. It is evident in the beautiful photo tribute that Kim glowed with love for all of you, and was loved and cherished by you in return.
May you find comfort and peace in the midst of your sorrow, and may you be reassured that Kim is loving you still! ♡

Kim was one in a million… a wonderful, loving, caring person with a big heart, who not only saw the best in people, but recognized their special talents and was quick to encourage all she met to utilize those talents for great things! She truly appreciated the person you were, but could see in us what sometimes we didn’t see in ourselves.
She was a creative theatrical producer at heart… with the right funding and determination, I’m sure with Kim’s instruction and influence I could have had my own TV show - she so believed in my gardening and cooking abilities! We even had the program name figures out (From Garden to Table). I’m grateful for the impromptu visits with Kim – we would enjoy a “beverage” as we strolled throughout the garden and chat about the landscaping, and brainstorm episodes for the TV show. She was the one who told me the incredible long, contorted squash in my garden were cucuzza, an Italian zucchini. She was amazed that I was growing an Italian “delicacy”, and she was quite happy to take some home with her! Such good memories.
You could instantly connect with Kim – there was someone she knew, something she’s done, or an interest she had that somehow related to everyone she met. And if you even mentioned food, you captured her attention… how the food looked and tasted (not all eggplant parmesans measured up), what restaurant had the best version of certain dishes (Homestead Rest for the best French Onion Soup), and how to cook it – especially that 2-foot long zucchini!
Our shared love of food, and garage sales, was inspiration for many fun road trips and delicious lunches, and a little bit of mischief along the way, like climbing down a secret spiral staircase to the wine cellar at Crystal Springs Resort! Kim loved to drive “in the country” – we would grab our coffees on Friday mornings and seek out estate sales, barn sales, and yard sales near and far! The challenge wasn’t finding our way – that was part of the adventure – but rather trying to fit all of our garage sale finds into the back of the car! Tom and John were even called in once or twice for some heavy lifting of our second-hand treasures!
Kim’s love of food was evident in her cooking and entertaining – she was a great cook and loved a good party. She would offer you a drink, a Danish, or some sort of food whenever anyone stopped by, no matter the occasion. An Easter celebrations with John and Kim were epic – good food, lots of family fun, and an Easter Egg hunt like no other! For Kim, food was love, and we were all well loved by Kim.
Kim will be dearly missed, but we will all have such great memories and the inspiration to be the best version of ourselves thanks to Kim seeing the best in us.
Love you Kim. An angel gone too soon. Enjoy your wings… until our next adventure together.

In listening to memories and stories about Kim from friends and family, there is a common theme. Kim did have that special gift to make every person she talked to feel like they were the most important person in the world. Family and friends meant everything to Kim. She loved her parties and she loved her food. We will all forever remember the annual party at Easter and looked forward to the main event – the famous Easter egg hunt in the backyard!
During my younger, single days, I would mention to Kim that I had a bowl of cereal or some eggs for dinner. Kim would tell me “That’s not a real dinner!” and would make sure to give me some home cooked food. Even during her last few weeks as she grew weaker, Kim would insist that anyone visiting her should go into the kitchen and have something to eat. No one ever left John and Kim’s house hungry.
I will forever remember and be grateful to Kim for her love, patience, and time she spent with my parents. I am truly blessed and proud to be Kim’s brother-in-law. I am grateful for the friendship and close bond that developed between Kim and my wife Ann. I was honored when John and Kim asked me to be the godfather of their son Johnny. I am humbled and incredibly grateful for all of my brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and for my extended family from Kim who always made me feel welcome and a part of their family.
I will always remember Kim for her kindness, compassion, positive outlook on life, and strength she showed during her struggle with cancer. I look to John and Kim as examples of what love and marriage should be. One of the highest compliments I can think to give to anyone is to say that I am a better person for having known them. That is exactly how I feel about Kim. I am sure that anyone who knew Kim would agree. We are all better people for having Kim in our lives. Rest In Peace Aunt Kimmy! You were one of a kind and will be forever missed. Love Tommy!

Oh my sweet Aunt Kimmy, she truly was one of a kind. When I think of her, the first word that comes to my mind is warmth. Whether it be her delicious home cooked meals or genuinely sincere manner, she always had this way of making everyone around her feel loved and accepted no matter who you were in her life. When she spoke to you, you could easily talk for hours and hours and walk away feeling like you could take on the whole world. When she spoke to you, you could see it in her eyes that she genuinely cared about what was going on in your life and how she could help in any way possible. She believed in people and always saw the good in them even if they didn’t see it themselves. There were many times when I doubted myself and Aunt Kim would tell me that I could do anything I dreamed of and never ever stopped believing in me. I first dreamed of getting my real estate license and she not only helped me study, but never stopped cheering me on by saying, “you can do this Tiffy, I believe in you!” Sure enough, I did get my license thanks to her encouragement and support. My biggest dream of them all was to become an elementary school teacher which I contemplated pursuing for years. She pushed me to make it happen and I remember her telling me, “Tiffy, being a teacher is what you were meant to do, it’s not too late to go after your dream, so go all the way with it.” If it wasn’t for her, I would have never realized my passion for teaching or have known of a teaching opportunity that eventually changed my life. After landing a job within a school I will never forget her text saying, “so proud of you. You’re hard work, winning personality, loving nature, and kind actions are going to take you far in life. I believe in you. Always remember how special and unique you are.” There it was, I could take on the whole world in that very moment because of her. I owe so much to my Aunt Kim, whether it be pushing myself to follow my dreams or giving me my first “lead role” as the Mayor of Munchkin town in the Wizard of Oz, I am so grateful to have had her in my life for as long as I did. I will never forget all of her advice, guidance, strength, and love she showed me my entire life. I will forever aspire to one day be the same loving and devoted wife and mother that she was her whole life. I will miss her everyday and just like she always said to me, “I love you more than you’ll ever know.” Rest in the sweetest peace Aunt Kimmy, until I see you again.

Kim and I have been friends for about thirty years. She was such a special person. She never wanted to talk about herself. Her focus was on family and friends. Whenever I saw her, she had a compliment ready to make me feel special.
I saw her on February 20th and before I left, she gave me birthday presents and a card that she had picked out (my birthday was February 27th). I came back on February 22nd and held her hand. When I apologized to her because my hand was cold, she offered me a warm drink. That was my friend Kim. Always thinking of others.
I first met Kim when I started taking acting classes from her. Over time, she became my acting coach and cheerleader. She was an amazing teacher and the most talented director I have ever worked with. We shared so many happy theater memories. Here are just a few. She directed “The Wizard of Oz” and raised over $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation. I played the Wicked Witch of the West. She came up to me at intermission during one of the shows. She was always very dramatic. She said, “Patricia you are wonderful today. A little boy is in the bathroom with his grandfather crying. He thinks you are a real witch”. I said I feel so bad. She said, “No. This is wonderful, you a so good that you fooled a little child”. I said, “Did you see that Toto bit me today?” She excitedly left saying, “Wonderful, you fooled a little dog too”. She didn’t even stop to look at the teeth marks on my hand.
I was in a variety show that she directed (proceeds given to the veterans). I played Gracie Allen. After one show, a man came up to her and said “You cast such a ditz as Gracie Allen”. She said, “Really? That person is a pediatrician”.
She directed “Charlotte’s Web”. When Charlotte dies after having her baby spiders, Kim did not want to make her death sad. She dressed Charlotte in white shimmering clothes. She walked toward a bright light with a smile on her face. I imagine Kim walking from the loving arms of her family to the waiting arms of God.

We always looked forward to seeing Kimmy at a family party or event, especially going to Kimmy and John's house for Easter. You never knew what color Kimmy's hair was going to be, which was fun and went with her personality. She was great to be around! She was loving, caring, kind, and so much fun! This morning I woke up and went to the window to see a pure white snow had fallen during the night.
I immediately thought of Kim and her very special day yesterday. It was the true beginning for Kim with her spiritual & emotional Mass of Celebration of her Life. Kim’s meeting with Our God and Lord and Savior and Kim’s role model Our Blessed Mother.
I thought of Kim’s mom and dad greeting her with tears flowing , “it’s to soon”
As Fr. Ed was filled with the Holy Spirit and emotion he mentioned banquet in Heaven. I thought of every Saint, family member and friends who greeted Kim with a banquet of all her favorite foods that she had once served us.
Kim was a vision of a beautiful Angel pinned with a sparking American flag. Her love of being a true patriot.
The church was filled with people filled with love for Kim and for each other. Kim had accomplished her true purpose on earth, “ love thy neighbor”.
They say Angels walk among us here on Earth. Kim was Our Angel on earth.
Her other accomplishment was with her loving husband and best friend, John. They raised two fine, caring and compassionate sons, John and Dillon, she saw a dream of her’s come true, her Son’s found the love of their lives Dana and Jamie.
Kim was blessed with the love and protection of her big sister, MaryAnn (and never know what to expect) younger brother Joseph. Nieces , nephews, cousins, aunts and Uncles, who adored being apart of sharing their love of Kim. When Kim married John Kim combined the love between both families to be as one big Happy family.
The love Johnny and Dillon showed-for their mom was a blessing and dream for every mother.
John, Kim’s loving husband spoke of his undying love for.Kim.
Thanking her for a life fulfilled together.
No one will forget this day a true tribute to a special woman, daughter, wife, mother, sister, sister in law , Godmother, niece, Aunt and Loyal friend.
No matter whatever the elements bring I will be reminded of our precious, lovable Kim.
Rest In Peace Kim although I’m sure your planning something big to direct for God’s entertainment.
Kim please give a big hug to my son Anthony .

I only met Mrs. Chorba a couple of times, but I always walked away recognizing how special she was. Her kindness was undeniable.
As a friend of Jamie for many years I’ve gotten to know Dillon and his loved ones on a personal level and I feel so grateful to have experienced the warmth and love each of you so easily give.
It is clear how adored Mrs. Chorba was and how deeply she cared for her family. There are no words to describe this loss, but she will always be an angel looking over you and protecting you always.

In Loving Memory of Our Dear Kim
When I die, if you need to weep,
Cry for your brother or sister
Walking the street beside you.
And, when you need me, put your arms around anyone,
And give them what you need to give me.
I want to leave you something
Something better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I've known or loved.
And, if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live in your eyes and not on your mind.
You can love me most by letting hands touch hands, By letting bodies touch bodies.
Love doesn't die. People do.
So, when all that's left of me is love,
Give me away. - Anonymous
And, was not Kim the embodiment of LOVE ?
(generous of spirit, kind, encouraging, always making you feel special, accepting you for who you were, no judgement, and I could go on and on)
Kim, my beautiful friend, love you and will miss you so, Elly

One of my fondest memories of Kim is when she directed me in Nunsense. What a gift it was to work with Kim sharing our love of the theater, always encouraging, especially during my drunk scene which which tapped into Kim’s proficient directing. Uncle Richard actually thought I was drunk on stage. He loved it and loved Kim.
Easter was always a most special celebration inviting nearly anyone she knew to share the Easter Holiday with her loving family, John, a perfect host always and their sons John Jr. and Dillon. What wonderful sons Kim and John raised now sharing their lives with Dana (John) and Jamie (Dillon). You knew Kim’s Easter dinner would surpass all dinners.
I will never forget our heart to heart talks about life when visiting her during her illness, always thinking about the person she was with, never herself. I once mentioned Kim is a family saint and I believe that. May you now rest in peace with no pain and in the glory of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen

The hugest, most colorful personality that you could ever meet. My dearest friend, Kim.
If I admired Kimmy before, now she is on a pedestal for how she has handled her illness. Never complained, never questioned “why me”, never expressed anger to her God – at least not in front of her friends. She was at peace with her fate and made it so much easier for many of us to visit and to enjoy our visits with her. Her faith shone this last year and she was truly an inspiration and example to us all.
I have known and loved Kimmy since our grammar school days at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin in Garfield. She attracted friends like a magnet. That curly-haired girl, funny, with genuine warmth and the huge brown eyes. It was Kim’s porch or “stoop” as we called it, where we all hung out every day after school. I know the many “Mt. Virginers” will be able to recall.
We both lived on Mac Arthur Avenue, one block apart. As such, we babysat for the same families together, worked in the parish rectory together, took the Mac Arthur Avenue bus into Passaic to buy our family Christmas gifts at John’s Bargain store - not without a stop at Jefferson Bakery Shop for pastries of course. That may be why we had to shop the chubette department at Ginsburg’s in Passaic!
We went through our first young boyfriends together (sorry Charlie and John!) and I remember sneaking up to her grandmother’s apartment with them just to have a place to hang out, when the apartment was empty - very innocently of course. We separated in high school but hung out on weekends with her Paramus Catholic girlfriends, alternating on Sundays between our 2 houses for meals - Mrs. Scifo’s delicious sauce and my Mom’s lemon chicken and crème pies, but not before walking to Barcelona’s and enjoying a $.99 eggplant parm sandwich. Kim was my accomplice with eating!
We were separated again in college but she is the kind of friend that you pick up just where you left off. Comfortable, at ease, no competition – we completely understood and respected each other. Kim was so intelligent. I found her to be empathetic, wise, positive, fun loving, faithful, and most of all genuine. We were always on the same page. Respecting what she had stood for - she ultimately was selected to become Christopher’s Godmother.
Our adult friendship continued to blossom as for the past 33 years we have happily lived only 4 minutes from each other! This permitted close best friend discussions on motherhood and raising our sons, marriage, friendships, career paths and who our daughter-in-laws might one day be! Living so close also enabled our passions of going to Dunkin Donuts and talking, sharing coupons at Yankee Candle and Bath and Body Works, haggling at garage sales, visiting consignment shops (much to John’s chagrin. John, you have to know that she sometimes hid her garage sale finds from you if they had to do with more dishes coming into the house!). We visited different restaurants for lunch and talked, and did late-night trips to TJMaxx and Costco - sharing a yogurt parfait there – convincing ourselves that it was healthy and not really ice cream. Always talking in the car and laughing. I shall always remember our talks. ..We never became bored. Always something new to talk about.
Kim had a love affair with food. She enjoyed shopping for it, preparing it, cooking it, and eating it, but most of all, serving it to others. When you had a meal or snack at the Chorba house the table was set with scented candles, matching dishes and glassware (from garage sales, John) and linens. It was a feast for the eyes. I so enjoyed visiting her. And on the kitchen table always no less than 10 cookie or cake varieties to enjoy with coffee. She so enjoyed adding to her baked goods with our holiday baking events with The Golden Girls.
She had an ongoing devotion to the Blessed Mother. At her request last May, she had always wanted to have a May Crowning in her yard, masked of course to protect her, complete with music from the internet and a crown, and Kathy and I even said the rosary in the yard! She was elated. Thank you to John for the beautiful setup. What a memory.
Charlie and I consider the Scifos and Chorbas as family. They are tremendous people. And both families have great senses of humor. Those who read this, are aware of what they have meant to us all in past years, and will continue to do so. Kim truly lived for John, Dillon, and Johnny. So proud of her sons’ accomplishments and of the strong young men they have become. Family was everything. If she was with them, don’t even try texting or calling her. You didn’t have a prayer for her to answer. John, she has commented for several months on what an angel you have been in her care. She knows she was truly blessed. And, she adored the new women in the family, Dana and Jamie, and knows that her sons chose the right women.
My son, Chuck, commented on the warmth he always felt coming into the Chorba home, while visiting Kim just a few weeks ago. The paneling, beams, fireplace and country feel all had something to do with it, but it was mostly from the loving hospitality of Kim and John and how they made you feel, that you were most welcomed and that their home was yours. Chris and Chuck also commented on how different I was when with Kim. I laughed more, was spontaneous and not so serious. I totally agree with them. She brought out positivity in me and we laughed so much. She was so endearing to all and immediately bonded with my new daughter-in-law, Carly, making her feel valued and part of the family. My life, like yours has been incredibly enriched by this special woman.
God Bless You, Dear Kimmy.
You have been called to do great things, in this next journey.
I shall forever acknowledge the gift of you to me. My memories will be treasured forever.
So Much Love,
Lucille Gesualdi

My deepest condolences to John, John, Dillon, Maryanne, and all of Kim's family. I'm deeply saddened to hear of her passing.
A fond memory I have of Kim is that of young John's birthday party, while in the early years at Holy Spirit school. Being Kim was so kind, she decided to invite the entire class. The children painted Christmas balls. The only problem was the balls were glass and they kept rolling on the floor and breaking. I recall just laughing and cleaning them up.
She was a sweet, lovely soul and will be deeply missed...

Kim, You are Our Special Angel sent from up above. You were a gift to everyone who knew you.
John, Johnny, Dana, Dillon, Jamie And
All family and friends are fully sadden by the loss of our shinning light Kim.
Tonight look up to the stars and be happy, the brightest star is KIM., She will twinkle and it will be a reminder of the beautiful spirit of Kim. Every morning when the sun is shinning, that’s our sunshine, Kim.
I, Aunt Buttercup would like to answer a question that has been presented to me. “ What is Kim’s baptismal name? “How did she get the name Kim?”
Kim’s given name is Frances Dawn.
She was named for her maternal grandmother whose name was Frances, (Providence).
I was 14 years old when Kim was born. She had big dark brown eyes, silky black hair and bangs and so beautiful.
I, Aunt Buttercup was mesmerized by her and I realized she looked like an Eskimo baby.
I started thinking Es-KIM-o
I called her Kim. With the approval of her mom and dad they agreed to call her Kim. It stuck!!!
I wish I could express the love all of us are feeling but it really doesn’t need to be explained. Love=KIM.

My prayers and deepest sympathy are indeed with Kim’s family as we grieve the profound loss of such a special, caring, loving person. What memories we have to cherish!
Kim was my classmate at Mount Virgin from 1960 - 1969, from kindergarten through 8th grade. These were our “wonder years.” Kim always went out of her way to make others feel special. Her remarkable gift from her earliest years was to be sensitive to others’ feelings and to be a good listener. She was consistently empathic and affirming, qualities that endured throughout her life, and which contributed to her profound success as an effective advocate for childhood education.
Kim was indeed beautiful deep down to her soul. Rest in eternal peace, our beloved, treasured classmate and friend.

Kim, my princess !
I started calling Kim princess @ the end of our 8th grade fundraiser for Johnny and James class. At the end of the night while we were cleaning up, Kim was completely exhausted, sitting in the opening of the kitchen! (probably from all the martins she drank that her brother made!)
Kim was such a kind and caring person. She was compassionate about everything she did. She loved kid and lived it to her fullest. Her family and friends were the world to her. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anything. She gave her 100% attention in every thing she do and anyone she was with.
I know I’m a better person having had her in my life. Her inside and outside beauty will be greatly missed.
My forever princess , I will miss but know you will always be in my heart.

I wish all people felt love the way Aunt Kim loved us because the world would be a much different place. Our family’s hearts are shattered at the loss of our Aunt Kimmy to her battle with colon cancer. We will think of her every single day- every time we have happiness to share, a good meal to recommend, a minor moment to brag about, or just need a last minute drive down the shore. Because Aunt Kim was our constant champion and our sunshine. She dedicated her life to making us feel special and because of her we always did.
I recall a specifically silly example- and one I’m sure we all laughed and rolled our eyes at- when Aria was an infant. She was learning to use her facial expressions and to mimic animal sounds on demand for applause. One afternoon the whole crew huddled around the baby the way a family does when the ratio of child to adult is about 1 to 100….and called out animals for her performance. I beamed with the pride of a new mother, Grandma stood to the side smiling and calling out the more difficult animals so Aria could really show off, and all my cousins laughed until it started to get old. One by one they peeled off from the group until it just Aunt Kim and I
Turning to her I said, casually “Cute, right?”
To which she replied- with complete sincerity- “Lacey, this kid’s got it. I think I’m going to open my acting studio again. Do you think she could be Annie? Maybe we can take her to New York City. I think she’s ready.” (Queue my eye roll)
Comically exasperated that I couldn’t spot talent like she could “Oh forget it Lacey, I’ll talk to your mother.”
This story is authentically Aunt Kimmy. Where we saw the cuteness of baby talk, she saw a star. She so convincingly told us we were special and could do anything that it was impossible not to believe it.
One of my earliest memories was waking up to the Barbie Dream House on Christmas. I was thrilled and our house full of relatives was overjoyed to see me open it- but after the excitement wore off breakfast took top billing. Aunt Kimmy and I sat on the floor painstakingly applying every sticker and decal until the house was ready. We got our Barbies dressed up, and made up, for their date nights and even took them out dancing. Her patience and genuine play turned the memory of a great present into a life lesson I’ve cherished.
Like Aunt Kimmy, I had the joy of becoming an Aunt before I became a Mother. I think of her often as I’ve spoiled nieces or nephews. She was famous for indulgences but the real gifts she gave us were not the toys or treats, of which there were many for sure, but in how she was always completely present. She gave us the gift of her time and dedication.
Our family has endured more heartache and loss than seems fair over the years- and particularly in the past year. But I have consistently come back to an exchange Aunt Kim and I shared a while back. Gemma was recently born and my father was declining rapidly. We were assembled at my house for cupcakes to celebrate Aria’s dance recital and she could tell I was quite literally hanging on by a thread trying to stay present and happy. In a quiet moment between the two of us she simply shared this:
“I’m not sure why this is happening, Lacey. It certainly doesn’t seem fair. But we already know what our gifts are.” And pointed at my children while they terrorized each other and ran through the house like wild animals.
I needed that reminder to focus on the gifts in our life. And I will not forget it, even now.
We love you Aunt Kimmy.

I’ve known Kim since kindergarten where we attended Our Lady of Mt. Virgin school. We were a close knit group who still keep in touch. I can speak for all of us that we are heartbroken from her passing but are happy she is at peace now.I was lucky enough to call her my friend. My prayers are with her family and friends. Kim was a light in the darkness to me . I met her because she directed a fundraiser play created for my sons father who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer...We became friends and I asked her to join the Flood committee because I thought she would be a great asset for us, and she was,. With her we secured three separate multi million dollar grants to elevate approximately 60 homes in our town making a huge difference in the lives of the people who live here...Personally she always encouraged me to go after what was in my heart and that when others would tell me it was not within our ability she would take me a different route...Thanks for always encouraging and believing in me. My heart goes out to her family because to know her is to know the loss of such a light...Till we meet again my friend, heaven has taken their angel back.

For as long as Dillon and I have been friends, it was evident that Mrs. Chorba was the single most important person to him in this life. I was fortunate enough to finally meet her at Dillon and Jamie's engagement party, and the stories and descriptions of Mrs. Chorba I've heard over the years were evident the moment we met.
Mrs. Chorba was a shining beacon of hope and love in this world, and her existence has changed the lives of many. We are all so fortunate to have had the opportunity to be impacted by her in one way or another. I've been fortunate enough to gain one of the best friends I could have in my life, her son Dillon, who is truly a reflection of his mom, carrying with him all of the love, lessons, and character she passed onto him. So I thank her for that.
Let this be a time of celebration; honoring and remembering such a beautiful soul that somehow fit the impact of 10 lives into her 67 years on this earth.

I have known Kim since as long as I can remember being a students at Holy Spirit and her and my mom being best friends. She coached me when I was very into acting at a young age and was always cheering me on when she had lunch with my mom and I. She sold my husband and I our first home and every time I walk in I will remember how truly excited she was for us, like she was my own mother. She continued her bright light by coming to our wedding and later saying I was the most beautiful bride she’s ever seen. She never ever failed in making someone smile. The Lord takes the best of us early and he truly took the best one walking the earth. I know she’s flying high with the rest of the angels in heaven because she was one on earth as well.
Love- Sabrina Presti
