Leon E. Busteed, 80, of Pompton Lakes, died Saturday evening, February 10, 2007 at the Hospice of New Jersey center at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Wayne with his loving wife, sons and grandchildren by his side. Born in Hornell, New York, Leon was the son of the late George and Mary (nee Connors) Busteed. Growing up in Hornell, he graduated high school there and worked for the Eerie Railroad before serving for the Army Air Corps during World War II. Returning home, he married the former Irene M. Vincent, whom he had grown up with, and together the couple settled in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, raising three sons. To support his family, Leon first worked as an inspector for Curtis Wright in Fairfield, and later as a lab technician for E.I. Dupont in Pompton Lakes, where he worked for 23 years before retiring in 1985. William was a parishioner of St. Mary?s R.C.Church. He was also very active with Boy Scout Troop 38 of Pompton Lakes and the VFW there, serving as former Assistant Vice Commander and Chaplain. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene; his sons, Leon Timothy Busteed of Wallington, Vincent Patrick Busteed of Hamburg and Donald Michael Busteed of Andover; his brother, Donald Busteed of Mission Viejo, California; his sister, Helen Boyden of Verona; and his grandchildren, Misty Lynn, Donald Michael, Lisa and Patrick. A funeral service will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Pompton Reformed Church Cemetery in Pompton Lakes. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pompton Lakes Police Department, 25 Lenox Ave., Pompton Lakes, NJ 07442 or to the Pompton Lakes First Aid Squad, 400 Ramapo Ave., Pompton Lakes, NJ 07442 would be greatly appreciated.
