Michael Galiano, 88, of Pompton Plains, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the center for Hospice of New Jersey at St. Josephs Hospital in Wayne. Born in Newburgh, New York, Michael grew up in Paterson, the son of Frank and Carmella Galiano. Serving in the Army during World War II, he later married Mary Chiossi, and together the couple settled in Pompton Plains in 1952, raising three children there. To support his family, Michael worked as a self-employed builder, owning Galiano Builders in Pompton Plains. Over the years, he built many homes for friends and family. Michael was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Pompton Plains. In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Navaugh Council, as well as the councils Color Corp. Lastly, he was active with Pequannock Unico. Michael is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons, Michael Jr. and Frank; his daughter, Maryellen Mellin; his brother, John; his sister, Elma LaBagnara; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will begin 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, and will proceed to a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Pompton Plains. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Lodi. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
