Walter William Lefler Sr., 85, of Passaic, formerly of Paterson and Pompton Plains, died Friday, February 16, 2007 at Chestnut Hill Nursing Home in Passaic. Born in Easton, Pennsylvania, Walter was the son of the late Amos and Frances (nee Morris) Lefler. Marrying Helen Frances Kluska, the couple settled in Pompton Plains in 1943, where they raised a son and a daughter. To support his family, Walter worked as a self-employed professional driver and pilot. He was also a Special Officer to the Pequannock Township Police Department. In addition, he enjoyed volunteering his time to instruct Judo Boxing to the youth and women of Pequannock. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mt. View, Wayne, and a member of the Pilots Association. He is survived by his wife, Helen; his son, Walter Jr.; his daughter, Dawn Stoeckle; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will begin Monday morning with visiting hours from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter?s memory to St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 would be greatly appreciated by his family.
