Jutta Ponce, 86, of Pompton Plains, passed away on April 14, 2018, at home in the care of her family.
Born July 4, 1931 in Germany, Jutta was raised there. As a young adult, she moved to the United States in the late 1950s in search of the quintessential American dream. Educated as a laboratory technician, she secured a job at a hospital in upstate New York. There, she met and fell in love with Mario Ponce, who was working as a surgeon in the same hospital. The two married, and together settled in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to raise their family.
Jutta and Mario remained in Glen Ridge until Mario's death in 1996. Jutta then moved to the Eagle Rock Community in West Orange, before retiring to Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains in 2012.
Jutta is survived by her sons, Mario Ponce and his wife Irene, and Andreas Ponce; her son-in-law, John Detrano; her brother, Jurgen Schadewald; and her grandchildren, Elisabeth Ponce, William Ponce, Alessandra Detrano, and Isabella Detrano. She was predeceased by her husband, Mario, and her daughter, Maria Del Carmen Detrano.
Burial will be private. A remembrance will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in the Music Room at Woodland Commons, Cedar Crest Village, Pompton Plains.
