Raymond Weller

Obituary of Raymond Weller

Raymond Albert Weller, 90, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Northvale and Manchester, died Monday, April 16, 2018.

Born in North Bergen, Raymond was the son of Frederick and Matilda Weller. Raised there, he graduated from high school before starting his career with the Port Authority. He later moved to a job with Western Electric before entering the Army, serving from 1946-1947.

Returning home, he secured employment at NJ Bell. It was a job that was meant-to-be, for while working there he met Ellie von Taborsky, who was also employed at the company. The two hit it off instantly, and in 1952, they married.

Settling in Northvale, Raymond and Ellie raised two sons there together. Raymond held a long career at NJ Bell, retiring as Central Office Supervisor after 39 years of employment.

Retiring to Manchester, Raymond and Ellie were able to enjoy many travels together, including lands as far off as Australia and New Zealand. They also enjoyed cruising the Mediterranean, tours of France, Turkey, and Greece, as well as bus trips throughout the United States.

Raymond loved a good game of bowling or bocce with friends, and was also known as a great fan of the NY Mets.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Ellie; his sons, Richard and his wife Kathleen, and Robert and his wife Cathy; his grandchildren, Julie and her husband John Lettieri, Kristen Weller, and Michelle and her husband Kyle Laauwe; and his great-grandchild, Brianna. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth O'Brien and Joyce Carmeci.

A memorial gathering will be held 6-8 pm Thursday at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. Cremation was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the American Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
