Obituary of Marguerite Sharpell

Marguerite Tokar Sharpell, of Pompton Plains, passed away at home on April 18 at the age of 89.

Born in Bethlehem, PA, Marguerite was the youngest of six children born to Mary and John Tokar.  After her marriage to Fred Sharpell in 1950, she moved to Fords, NJ where she and Fred began their family.  In 1957 the young family moved to Pequannock, NJ.

Other hobbies included baking, sewing, completing the NY Times crossword, and quilting.  She credited her good health and youthful appearance to twenty years of aerobics with the Pequannock Township recreation program.  When she stopped attending, she maintained a regular walking routine.

In 2015, she and Fred moved to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains where she made numerous new friends and enjoyed a variety of social activities.

Marguerite was preceded in death by Frederick H. Sharpell, Jr. her husband of 66 years.  She is survived by her children, Susan Pratt (Rod), Diane Shepherd (Clay), Debbie Watson (Ron), Frederick  H. Sharpell, III and David Sharpell (Irene), five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11 am to 12 pm on Friday, April 20 at Cedar Crest Chapel, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will begin at 12 pm in the chapel.

She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit and good humor.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chilton Memorial Hospital, 97 West Pkwy, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444.
