Mary Cohick, of Pompton Plains, died Thursday, April 19, 2018. She was 102.
Born in Waterbury, CT, she lived most of her life there. The daughter of Anthony and Ermalinda Acquarelli, she married Anthony Rovero as a young woman, and together they settled in Waterbury to raise their son, Robert.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Mary worked as a Seamstress for many years, and was a longtime member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Sadly, Mary's husband Anthony passed away in 1965. She later remarried, and enjoyed life with Charles "Bo" Cohick.
Mary retired in 1981, taking off to travel the world. She loved dancing – and was quick to mention the time she won a dance contest with her brother. She loved laughing and reminiscing with her sisters over good food and drink. She loved to play (win) a game of cards, bingo or Rummikub, which she played tirelessly with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never turned down a hot slice of pizza or a cold beer, and always dressed to the nines – she truly enjoyed life.
Mary is survived by her grandchildren, Robert Rovero and his wife Vangi-Marie, Christine Caci and her husband Jim, her step daughter Lois Jordan and her step granddaughter Jerrie and her husband Rob; and her great-grandchildren, Michael Rovero, Nicole Caci, Christopher Rovero, Douglas Caci and Julia Caci.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Anthony Rovero and Charles Cohick; her son, Robert Rovero.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will be 11 am Saturday at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, CT.
