Obituary of Anatolijs Borovskis

Anatolijs "Tony" Borovskis, 85, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died Friday, August 31, 2018.

Born in Riga, Latvia, Tony was the son of Aleksandrs and Raisa Borovskis. The family left Latvia at the beginning of World War II, and settled in the Bronx when Tony was a teenager. He finished his primary education at Stuyvesant High School before going on to earn his B.S. in Geology from the City College of New York.

While studying at CCNY, he met Georgina McCormack at a dance on 86th street. The couple dated for two years, and married in 1959. They began their married life in the Bronx, and settled in Pompton Plains in 1963, raising four children there.

Tony worked for many years as a civil engineer for the NJ Department of Transportation, earning Employee of the Year in 1986. He retired in 1998 after achieving the title of Senior Engineer.

Tony and Georgina loved their home on a quiet cul-de-sac in Pompton Plains, and Tony spent many hours enjoying and beautifying his garden there. Quietly and ultimately dedicated to his family, everything he did was for them. He was a longtime volunteer with the Boy Scouts while his sons were growing up, and was fiercely devoted to his wife and daughter, as well as his sons and grandchildren, till the end of his life.

Tony was a true history buff, and was an avid reader of historical accounts, especially on the subject of World War II. Together with his family, he greatly enjoyed his yearly vacations to Wildwood Crest.

Tony is lovingly survived by his wife, Georgina; his children, Alex and his wife Susan, Paul and his wife Jane, Anastasia, and Gregory and his wife Theresa; as well as his grandchildren, Danielle and her husband Sam, Courtney, Michael, Elena, Emily, and Grant.

A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Monday, September 3, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Pompton Plains. Cremation will be private.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 3-7 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Dementia Society of America or to Wings for Life in Tony's memory would be greatly appreciated by the Borovskis family.
