Obituary of Charles Sauers
Charles T. Sauers, 74, of Pompton Plains, formerly of West Milford, died Friday, October 5, 2018.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Charlie was the son of Charles E. and Alice Sauers. Raised first in the Scranton area, the family moved to Clifton, New Jersey when Charlie was in middle school.
Charlie held a long career as a sheet metal worker, first as owner of Ace Sheet Metal from 1983-1993 and later with Bonland in Wayne. There, he met his wife Bernice Malinowsky Thomas, whom he married in 2005. In their 13 years together, they were able to travel to all 50 states, including Alaska, which they visited twice. The couple also greatly enjoyed ten winters in Marathon Key, FL.
Charlie was a great cook, known most of all for his shrimp with garlic dish. He spent his spare time watching the Cooking Channel, learning tips and techniques on how to perfect every dish. He also loved to keep his brain sharp with crossword puzzles.
Charlie is lovingly survived by his wife, Bernice; his daughters, Laura Rufo, Renee Hyatt and her husband Bud, and Joy Lee; his step-sons, Robert and Bernard Thomas; his brother, James Sauers and his wife Mimi; his sister, Mary Reither; and his grandchildren, Daniel and Gianna Rufo, Jessica and Caleb Miller, and Shannon Hyatt.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be greatly appreciated by his family.
