Obituary of Serafina Mayor

Serafina Mayor, 81, of Pompton Plains, passed away on February 23, 2019.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Serafina was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Serafina Cannistraci.  She married Robert Andrew Mayor in 1957 and the couple settled in Pompton Plains to raise their family. Serafina had a loving and caring nature and opened her house to everyone. Her greatest joy in life above all was her family, although being able to tell who her family was might prove to be difficult as everybody affectionately knew her as “mama”. She prided herself in taking care of everyone so it is no surprise that memories of her will continue to comfort all who she has touched.

Serafina is survived by her loving husband, Robert; her children, Robert, Jr. (Norma), Michael (Lisa), and Kristen Squier (Gary); her sister, Rose Diaz; her brothers, Vincent and Salvatore "Junior" Cannistraci; and her grandchildren, Christina Mayor, Robert Mayor, III, Jesse Squier, Julia Squier, Zachary Mayor, Larissa Mayor, Javier Kovacs, Horacio Kovacs (Nadia), Istavan Kovacs (Gabriella), Rodrigo Kovacs, and Santiago Kovacs.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, February 27 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.  A funeral Mass will be held 10 am Thursday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains.  Interment will follow at First Reformed Cemetery, Pompton Plains.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Serafina's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated by her family.
