Obituary of Wayne A. Damstra

Wayne A. Damstra, 61, of Wayne, died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Hackensack Memorial Hospital in Hackensack.

Born in Paterson, Wayne was one of three children born to Franklin and Joan Damstra. Raised in Pompton Lakes, he graduated from high school there before pursuing a college education at Ramapo College.

Wayne married Maureen Magee in 1980, and together they had three daughters. Their family enjoyed hiking, camping, and their vacations in Florida. He started a 30 year career in real estate, becoming a broker and part owner of Century 21 Gemini, in Wayne and Montclair.

Wayne's legacy will long be held in the guidance and education he gave to his employees and fellow realtors. He greatly enjoyed his job, and was lucky to work in a career he was passionate about.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by girlfriend Brenda Puzio and her three children - Michael, Brendyn, and Iva - whom he loved as though they were his own.

You could often find Wayne on the golf course with his friends. Cheering on the NY Yankees also was a lifelong passion of his, as well as holding a deep appreciation of sports cars.

He is lovingly survived by his daughters, Janel Zuffi and her husband Robert, Kathy Corbett and her husband Tommy, and Robin Salant and her husband James; his parents, Franklin and Joan Damstra; his brother, William Damstra and his wife Vicky and his children Dana and Carrie; his sister, Karen Nendze and his nephews Matthew, Nicholas, and Daniel; his grandchildren, Anabella, Liam, Luke and Wesley; and his long-time best friend, Steve Kulycz.

Visiting hours will be held 1-4 and 6-8 pm Monday at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm Monday to conclude the visitation period. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Pancreatic Cancer Network would be greatly appreciated by Wayne's family.
