Obituary of Denise M. Rudy
Denise M. Rudy, 62, a lifelong resident of Wayne, died Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains.
Born in Elmira, New York, she moved with her family to Wayne as a young child, and graduated Wayne Hills High School with the class of 1975.
While working as a Nurse's Aid at the Lincoln Park Nursing Home, she was introduced to her coworker, Norman Rudy. He quickly won her affection, and on May 7, 1978, they married.
The couple settled in Wayne, where they raised their three children. While they were young, Denise stayed home to take care of her family, but returned to work at Dunkin Donuts for a number of years after they were grown. Though she never returned to a career in nursing, she was a caretaker throughout her life, and was known for always being there to help those who needed her.
Fond memories of Denise will always be punctuated by the sound of music, for she seemed to have a soundtrack filled with David Bowie, Cher and Whitney Houston tunes. She held a smile on her face (complete with red lipstick, always!) throughout her twelve year battle with breast cancer, and never complained about the struggles she faced. She "fought like a girl," and was proud of it.
Denise is lovingly survived by her children, Rachel Osborne and her husband Scott, Robert Rudy, and James Rudy and his fiance Gabby; her sister, Bonnie Hall; her grandchildren, Christopher, Charlie, Ciara, Bobbi, and Lyric; her dear friend Sandy Walder and her family; and her niece, Michele Perry. She was predeceased by her husband Norman in April.
A memorial gathering will be held 6-8 pm Friday, May 10 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.
